Company
Art Empire Industries Ltd (AEI) was incorporated in 1998 by D.Dias and James Cotterill to develop the Drum & Bass Arena web site and be part of the digital media revolution that was sweeping across the world at the time.
Nearly 10 years on, AEI is in the rare position of being one of the few independently owned companies to not only have survived the 'dot-com' gold rush, but has actively flourished in the new business and media landscape. The company is owned entirely by its management, is debt-free and profitable.
We believe that this has been achieved by focusing on the sociological impacts of new technology , leveraging the social and intellectual capital of its founders, and through anticipating rather than simply following the digital media market. This approach has enabled us to take Drum & Bass Arena from a simple online fanzine to one of the world’s leading music brands with an almost zero capital base.
The company was originally based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire but relocated to London in 2005.
Business Model
The company’s business model can be essentially summarised as follows:
AEI’s approach of operating both B2C and B2B strands has proved successful throughout the company’s history, providing the diversity and resilience required to react to rapidly changing market conditions. Whilst the balance between the strands has shifted over the past 10 years, the current emphasis is on exploiting both existing and new B2C brands and media properties.
